Mastering the Interview: Asking the Right Questions

There are a lot of questions you can ask during an interview. I suggest choosing 2 -3 questions that are relevant to you and what you like to know about them.  Before you walk in the door, do your research about the site. This will help you gain some insight into the company culture and give you a sense of direction.

Pre-interview Questions

  • What are their morals and values?

  • What is their Mission Statement?

  • What population do they serve?

  • Who are the leaders & their experience?

During the Interview

  • How are problems addressed and solved will help?

  • How much support is provided to you?

  • Is the supervisor on or off-site?

  • What is the client caseload?

  • Is there additional training on theories and note writing?

  • How is feedback given?

  • How culturally competent is the site?

What not to ask?

  • What do you do here?

  • How much do you make?

  • When or do I get a vacation?

  • Do I get paid?

  • Are you going to check my references?

  • Do I have to take a drug test or are there random drug tests?

Wrapping Up

Make a list of your questions and bring it in with you during the interview. Pay attention to how they answer you and look out for red flags (e.g. lack of response or gossiping).  Remember, the interview is about both parties and if they are the right fit for you.  If you need help choosing the right site, download our free workbook today.
